Kili Summit Club is the only worldwide registrar of Kilimanjaro ascents.
Climbing Kilimanjaro has literally been a life-long dream for me and the challenge and reward of reaching Uhuru peak exceeded my dreams. For me, and many others, this climb was a life-changing achievement that I need to share with everyone I meet for a couple of reasons.
First, I was able to conquer this incredible climb at the age of sixty-two with two artificial knees, accompanied by two daughters and co-founders Julie and Jill and two sons-in-law Justin and Ryan. While my wife Irene didn’t join us on the climb, her support throughout our training, the climb and the formation of this club was invaluable. Secondly, we were able to observe first-hand incredible poverty in Tanzania and specifically the porters and guides to whom we literally entrusted our lives.
Why Create Kili Summit Club?
In the five days we spent in Tanzania following our climb, we visited local shops and the “tourist traps” looking for anything to proclaim our accomplishment, to no avail. Searching the internet was equally as futile.
With no other viable option, I contacted a graphic designer and asked her to create some clothing designs and a logo that we are offering to others who have summited Kili on an awesome selection of active and casual wear, glasses, window stickers and other high quality bragging gear.
The exclusive Kili Summit Club is a web-based registry that allows you to declare internationally your achievement, post pictures, share stories, find some really cool “Bragging Gear,” while contributing to those guides and porters who make this dream a reality for thousands of climbers each year.
